Lancaster W4191 EM-Q 207 Sqn RAF. Op 21 December 1942, teen middernacht, is in dit veld deze Lancaster bommenwerper neergestort. De plats van de crash is van hier uit gezien net voor de bosrand in het verlengde van de lin in de voet van dit gedenkteken. Lancaster EM-Q vertrok aan het einde van de middag vanaf basis RAF Langar in midden England voor en aanval op München. De aanval werd witgevoerd door 137 bommenwerpers waarvan 12 Lancasters van 207 Squadron. Op de terugwed werd deze Lancaster neergeschoten door een Duitse nachtiager, een Messerschmitt Bf110. e Daarbij zin alle even bemanningsleden om het leven gekomen. Zij zin begraven op de begraafplaats Rusthof in Leusden
Translation "Lancaster W4191 EM-Q 207 Sqn RAF. On December 21, 1942, at midnight, this Lancaster bomber crashed in this field. The site of the crash is seen from here not in front of the forest edge in the extension of the line at the foot of this memorial. Lancaster EM-Q departed at the end of the afternoon from RAF Langar base in the middle of England for and attack on Munich. The attack was carried out by 137 bombers of which 12 Lancasters from 207 Squadron. On the return leg, this Lancaster was shot down by a German nightfighter, a Messerschmitt Bf110. In addition, all crew members lost their lives. They are buried at the Rusthof cemetery in Leusden" |
